English Translation
Ḥasan ibn Mūsā and ʿAffān narrated to us, both saying: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn Zayd, from ʿUmārah, from Abū Burdah, from Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī, who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah عز وجل will gather the nations on a single plain on the Day of Resurrection. When Allah عز وجل wills to judge between His creation, He will present to each people what they used to worship, and they will follow them until they plunge them into the Fire. Then our Lord عز وجل will come to us while we are on an elevated place and say: Who are you? We will say: We are the Muslims. He will say: What are you waiting for? They will say: We are waiting for our Lord عز وجل. He will say: Would you recognize Him if you saw Him? They will say: Yes. He will say: How would you recognize Him when you have not seen Him? They will say: Yes, He has no equal. Then He will reveal Himself to us, smiling, and say: Rejoice, O Muslims, for there is none among you except that I have placed in his stead in the Fire a Jew or Christian.' ʿAffān narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān informed us, from ʿUmārah al-Qurashī, who said: We went as a delegation to ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, and among us was Abū Burdah. He fulfilled our needs, and when Abū Burdah went out, he came back. ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz said: 'Mention to the elder what brought him back — did I not fulfill your needs?' Abū Burdah said: Only a hadith my father narrated to me from the Prophet ﷺ. He said: Allah عز وجل will gather the nations on the Day of Resurrection — then he mentioned the hadith. ʿUmar said to Abū Burdah: By Allah, did you truly hear Abū Mūsā narrate this from the Prophet ﷺ? He said: Yes, I myself heard it from my father narrating it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
