English Translation

Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, from Shuʿbah, al-Azraq ibn Qays narrated to me. He said: I saw an old man in al-Ahwāz praying ʿAṣr while the reins of his mount were in his hand. His mount kept retreating and he kept moving back with it. A man sitting from the Khawārij began insulting him. When he finished praying, he said: I have heard your remarks. I went on six — or seven — expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I witnessed his leniency and ease. Returning with my animal was dearer to me than leaving it to bolt toward its stable, which would have caused me hardship. I said: How many rakʿahs did you pray? He said: Two rakʿahs. And he was Abū Barzah al-Aslamī.
