Hadith #129

English Translation

Al-Ḥasan ibn Mūsā narrated to us, Sukayn ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to us, from Sayyār ibn Salāmah Abī al-Minhāl al-Riyāḥī who said: I entered with my father upon Abū Barzah al-Aslamī, and on that day I had earrings in my ears and I was a boy. Abū Barzah said: I praise Allah that I find myself blaming this tribe of Quraysh. So-and-so here fights over the world, and so-and-so here fights over the world — meaning ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān. He continued until he mentioned Ibn al-Azraq. Then he said: The most beloved of people to me is this band of veiled ones, whose bellies are light of the Muslims’ wealth and whose backs are light of their blood. He said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The leaders are from Quraysh. The leaders are from Quraysh. The leaders are from Quraysh. I have a right over them, and they have a right over you — so long as they fulfill three: when they judge, they do so justly; when mercy is sought from them, they show mercy; and when they make a covenant, they fulfill it. Whoever among them does not do that — upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all of mankind.’
