Hajjāj narrated to us: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Sayyār ibn Salāmah, who said: My father and I entered upon Abū Barzah, and we asked him about the prayer times of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. He said: He used to pray Zuhr when the sun passed its zenith, and Asr when a man could return to the farthest part of Madinah while the sun was still lively. As for Maghrib — Sayyār said: I have forgotten it. And Ishā’ — he did not mind delaying it until the third of the night. He disliked sleeping before it and talking after it. He used to pray Fajr, and a man would leave and recognize the face of the one sitting next to him. He used to recite in it between sixty and one hundred verses. Sayyār said: I do not know whether in one of the two rak‘ahs or in both of them.
