English Translation
‘Affān narrated to us: Hammād ibn Salamah narrated to us: ‘Alī ibn Zayd informed us, from Abū Nadrah, that a young man asked ‘Imrān ibn Husayn about the prayer of the Prophet ﷺ during travel. He went over to the gathering of al-‘Awqah and said: This young man has asked me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ during travel, so preserve what I tell you. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ never traveled on any journey except that he prayed two rak‘ahs until he returned. He stayed in Makkah at the time of the Conquest for eighteen nights, praying two rak‘ahs for the people. My father said: Yūnus ibn Muhammad also narrated it to us with this chain, adding: except for Maghrib. Then he would say: O people of Makkah, stand and pray two more rak‘ahs, for we are travelers. Then he fought at Hunayn and al-Tā’if, praying two rak‘ahs. Then he returned to al-Ji‘rānah and performed ‘Umrah from there in Dhū al-Qa‘dah. Then I fought alongside Abū Bakr, may Allāh be pleased with him, and performed Hajj and ‘Umrah, praying two rak‘ahs. And with ‘Umar, may Allāh be pleased with him, praying two rak‘ahs. Yūnus said: except for Maghrib. And with ‘Uthmān, may Allāh be pleased with him, at the beginning of his caliphate. Yūnus said: two rak‘ahs except for Maghrib. Then ‘Uthmān, may Allāh be pleased with him, prayed four after that.
