English Translation
Abd al-Wahhāb narrated to us: Khālid narrated to us, from a man, from Mutarrif ibn al-Shikhkhīr, from ‘Imrān ibn Husayn, who said: I prayed behind ‘Alī ibn Abī Tālib, may Allāh be pleased with him, a prayer that reminded me of a prayer I prayed with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and the two Caliphs. He said: So I went and prayed with him. He was saying the takbīr every time he prostrated and every time he raised his head from prostration. I said: O Abū Nujayd, who was the first to abandon this? He said: ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān, may Allāh be pleased with him, when he grew old and his voice weakened, he dropped it.
