English Translation
Abū Dāwūd narrated to us, Hammām narrated to us, from Qatādah, from ʿImrān ibn ʿIṣām, that an elderly man from the people of Basrah narrated to him, from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about al-Shafʿ and al-Witr. He said: “It is the prayer — some of it is shafʿ (even number of rakʿahs) and some of it is witr (odd number).”
