English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣubayḥ, who said: I heard Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn say: They mentioned in the presence of ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn that the dead is punished by the weeping of the living. They said: ‘How can the dead be punished by the weeping of the living?’ ʿImrān said: ‘the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said it.’
