English Translation

Ḥasan narrated to us, Shaybān narrated to us, from Manṣūr, from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh, from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn — or someone else — that Ḥuṣayn (or Ḥaṣīn) came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: ‘O Muḥammad, ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib was better for his people than you. He used to feed them liver and hump meat, while you slaughter them.’ the Prophet ﷺ said to him what Allah willed him to say. Then he said: ‘What do you command me to say?’ He said: ‘Say: O Allah, protect me from the evil of my soul, and resolve for me the most guided of my affairs.’ The man went and accepted Islam. Then he came back and said: ‘I came to you before and you told me to say: O Allah, protect me from the evil of my soul and resolve for me the most guided of my affairs. What should I say now?’ He said: ‘Say: O Allah, forgive me what I have concealed and what I have made public, what I have done by mistake, what I have done deliberately, what I have known, and what I have been ignorant of.’
