Hadith #475

English Translation

Yaḥyā ibn Abī Bukayr narrated to us, Zuhayr ibn Mu‘āwiyah said: ‘Abd al-Malik ibn ‘Umayr narrated to us, Ḥuṣayn ibn Abī al-Ḥurr narrated to me, from Samurah ibn Jundub, who said: I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he called for a cupper and ordered him to cup him. He (the cupper) brought out his cupping cups made from horns, attached them to him, made incisions with the tip of a lancet, and poured the blood into a vessel beside him. A man from Banī Fazārah entered and said: What is this, O Messenger of Allah? Why do you allow him to cut your skin? Samurah said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ say (in response): ‘This is cupping (ḥijmah).’ The man said: What is cupping? He said: ‘It is among the best of treatments that people use.’ (A further chain) al-Ashyab narrated to us, Shaybān narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Malik ibn ‘Umayr, from Ḥuṣayn ibn Abī al-Ḥurr al-‘Anbarī, similarly to the ḥadīth of Zuhayr.
