English Translation

‘Affān narrated to us, Hammām narrated to us, Qatādah narrated to us, from al-Ḥasan, from Samurah: the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Every child is pledged for his ‘aqīqah, slaughtered on his seventh day, his head is shaved, and blood is applied to him.’ (‘Affān narrated to us, Abān al-‘Aṭṭār narrated to us, Qatādah narrated to us, from al-Ḥasan, from Samurah, from the Prophet ﷺ, similarly — except that he said: ‘and he is given a name.’ Hammām said in his narration: We discussed with him (the wording) ‘and blood is applied.’ Hammām said: Qatādah used to describe the blood application, saying: When the ‘aqīqah sacrifice is slaughtered, a tuft of wool is taken to the jugular of the slaughtered animal, then placed on the crown (‘yafukh) of the infant’s head until it flows (with blood), after which his head is washed and then shaved.)
