English Translation

‘Abd al-Ṣamad and ‘Affān narrated to us, both saying: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, al-Ash‘ath ibn ‘Abd al-Raḥmān al-Jarmī informed us, from his father, from Samurah ibn Jundub: A man said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘I saw as if a bucket was lowered from the sky, and Abū Bakr رضي الله تعالى عنه came and took hold of its handles and drank from it a weak drink — ‘Affān added: and there was weakness in it — then ‘Umar رضي الله عنه came, took hold of its handles and drank until he was satiated. Then ‘Uthmān رضي الله عنه came, took hold of its handles but it shot away from him and some of it splashed on him.’
