حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَخْبَرَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ قَالَ رَجُلٌ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ وَالنَّاسُ يَعْتَقِبُونَ وَفِي الظَّهْرِ قِلَّةٌ فَحَانَتْ نَزْلَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَزْلَتِي فَلَحِقَنِي مِنْ بَعْدِي فَضَرَبَ مَنْكِبَيَّ فَقَالَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِ
رَبِّ الْفَلَقِ فَقُلْتُ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ فَقَرَأَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَرَأْتُهَا مَعَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ فَقَرَأَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَرَأْتُهَا مَعَهُ قَالَ إِذَا أَنْتَ صَلَّيْتَ فَاقْرَأْ بِهِمَا
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Ismā‘īl narrated to us, from Yūnus, Abū al-‘Alā’ ibn al-Shikhkhir narrated to me, one of the Banū Sulaym narrated to me — and he thinks this man had seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey and people were taking turns riding, as the mounts were few. When it was time for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and myself to alight, he caught up with me from behind and struck my shoulders, saying: ‘Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Daybreak (Qūl a‘ūdhu bi-rabb al-falaq).’ I said it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited it and I recited it with him. Then he said: ‘Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind (Qūl a‘ūdhu bi-rabb al-nās).’ the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited it and I recited it with him. Then he said: ‘Whenever you pray, recite them.’
