حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِي التَّيْمِيَّ عَن أَبِي السَّلِيلِ عَن زَهْدَمٍ عَن أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَسْتَحْمِلُهُ فَقَالَ لَا وَاللَّهِ لَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ فَلَمَّا رَجَعْنَا أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِثَل
َاثِ ذَوْدٍ بُقْعِ الذُّرَى قَالَ فَقُلْتُ حَلَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ لَا يَحْمِلَنَا ثُمَّ حَمَلَنَا فَأَتَيْنَاهُ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ حَلَفْتَ أَنْ لَا تَحْمِلَنَا فَحَمَلْتَنَا فَقَالَ لَمْ أَحْمِلْكُمْ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ حَمَلَكُمْ وَاللَّهِ لَا أَحْلِفُ عَلَى يَمِينٍ فَأَرَى غَيْرَهَا خَيْرًا مِنْهَا إِلَّا أَتَيْتُهُ أَبُو السَّلِيلِ ضُرَيْبُ بْنُ نُقَيْرٍ

English Translation
Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, he said: Sulaymān — meaning al-Taymī — informed us, from Abū al-Salīl, from Zahdam, from Abū Mūsā who said: We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asking him for mounts. He said: ‘No, by Allah, I will not give you mounts.’ When we turned back, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to us three white-humped camels. He said: I said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ swore not to give us mounts, then he gave us mounts! So we went to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, you swore not to give us mounts, yet you have given us mounts! He said: ‘I did not give you mounts, but rather Allah gave you mounts. By Allah, I do not swear an oath and then see something better than it except that I do the better thing.’ Abū al-Salīl is Ḍurayb ibn Nuqayr.
