حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونٍَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا دَاوُدُ عَن أَبِي نَضْرَةَ عَن أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ اسْتَأْذَنَ أَبُو مُوسَى عَلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ ثَلَاثًا فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ فَرَجَعَ فَلَقِيَهُ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَال
َى عَنْهُ فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنُكَ رَجَعْتَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ اسْتَأْذَنَ ثَلَاثًا فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ فَلْيَرْجِعْ فَقَالَ لَتَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى هَذِهِ بِبَيِّنَةٍ أَوْ لَأَفْعَلَنَّ وَلَأَفْعَلَنَّ فَأَتَى مَجْلِسَ قَوْمِهِ فَنَاشَدَهُمْ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى فَقُلْتُ أَنَا مَعَكَ فَشَهِدُوا لَهُ فَخَلَّى سَبِيلَهُ

English Translation
Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, he said: Dāwūd informed us, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī who said: Abū Mūsā sought permission from ʿUmar رضي الله تعالى عنه three times but was not granted permission, so he left. ʿUmar رضي الله تعالى عنه met him and said: Why did you leave? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever seeks permission three times and is not granted it, let him go back.’ He said: You must bring evidence for this, or I will certainly punish you! So he went to a gathering of his people and asked them by Allah تعالى. I said: I am with you. They testified for him, so ʿUmar let him go.
