Hadith #95
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ أَنْبَأَنَا حَجَّاجٌ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ الْوَاسِطِيِّ عَنْ رُفَيْعٍ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِآخِرَةٍ إِذَا طَالَ الْمَجْلِسُ فَقَامَ قَالَ سُبْح
َانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ بَعْضُنَا إِنَّ هَذَا قَوْلٌ مَا كُنَّا نَسْمَعُهُ مِنْكَ فِيمَا خَلَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَذَا كَفَّارَةُ مَا يَكُونُ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ

English Translation
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr narrated to us, Ḥajjāj informed us, from Abū Hāshim al-Wāsiṭī, from Rufayʿ Abī al-ʿĀliyah, from Abū Barzah al-Aslamī who said: Near the end, whenever the Prophet ﷺ would stand from a long gathering, he would say: ‘Glorious are You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.’ One of us said to him: This is a statement we have not heard from you before. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘This is an expiation for what occurs in the gathering.’
