English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from al-Azraq ibn Qays who said: Abū Barzah was in al-Ahwāz on the bank of a river. He had placed the reins in his hand and was praying, while his mount kept retreating, and he kept moving back with it. A man from the Khawārij began saying: O Allah, disgrace this old man — look at how he prays! When he finished praying, he said: I heard your remark. I went on six — or seven or eight — expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I witnessed his leniency and ease. Returning with my animal was easier for me than leaving it to bolt toward its stable, which would have caused me trouble. And Abū Barzah prayed ʿAṣr as two rakʿahs.
