حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيِّ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ أَوْ عَنْ غَيْرِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ وَكَانَ أَحَدَ الرَّهْطِ الَّذِينَ نَزَلَتْ فِيهِمْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ { وَلَا عَلَى الَّذِينَ إِذَا مَا أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ } إِلَ
ى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ قَالَ إِنِّي لَآخِذٌ بِغُصْنٍ مِنْ أَغْصَانِ الشَّجَرَةِ أُظِلُّ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُمْ يُبَايِعُونَهُ فَقَالُوا نُبَايِعُكَ عَلَى الْمَوْتِ قَالَ لَا وَلَكِنْ لَا تَفِرُّوا

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of those about whom the verse was revealed — 'and not upon those who, when they came to you so that you could provide them with mounts' — that he said: 'I was holding a branch of the tree to shade the Prophet ﷺ while they were pledging allegiance to him, and they said.'
