English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Juri Jabir ibn Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found him sitting wrapped in a garment with its fringe on his feet. He asked which of them was Muhammad ﷺ and the Prophet pointed to himself. He said he was from the desert people and had their rough manners, and asked for advice. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Do not belittle any act of goodness, even if it is meeting your brother with a cheerful face, even if it is pouring from your bucket into the vessel of one seeking water. If a man insults you for something he knows is in you, do not insult him back for what you know is in him — the reward will be yours and the burden upon him. Beware of letting your lower garment drag, for dragging the lower garment is from arrogance, and Allah does not love arrogance. And do not revile anyone.' He said: 'I have never reviled anyone after that — not a man, not a sheep, not a camel.'
