English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Bakra (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'I was walking with the Prophet ﷺ and he passed by two graves. He said: "Who will bring me a fresh palm branch?" I raced with another man and we brought a palm branch. He split it in two and placed one piece on each grave, then said: "Perhaps their punishment will be lightened as long as these remain moist." Then he said: "They are being punished, and they are not being punished for something great" — yet it is great.'
