حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ دَخَلْنَا عَلَى خَبَّابٍ نَعُودُهُ وَهُوَ يَبْنِي حَائِطًا لَهُ فَقَالَ الْمُسْلِمُ يُؤْج
َرُ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَا مَا يَجْعَلُ فِي هَذَا التُّرَابِ وَقَدْ اكْتَوَى سَبْعًا فِي بَطْنِهِ وَقَالَ لَوْلَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَدْعُوَ بِالْمَوْتِ لَدَعَوْتُ بِهِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'Were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from praying for death, I would have prayed for it. He was cauterized seven times in his stomach and said: I have been tried in everything except that which goes in this soil.'
