Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ خَبَّابٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ رَجُلًا قَيْنًا وَكَانَ لِي عَلَى الْعَاصِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ حَقٌّ فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَتَقَاضَاهُ فَقَالَ لَا أُعْطِيكَ حَتَّى تَكْفُرَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ فَقُلْتُ لَا وَاللَّهِ لَا أَكْفُرُ بِمُح
َمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ ثُمَّ تُبْعَثَ قَالَ فَضَحِكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَيَكُونُ لِي ثَمَّ مَالٌ وَوَلَدٌ فَأُعْطِيكَ حَقَّكَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى { أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي كَفَرَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالَ لَأُوتَيَنَّ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا أَطَّلَعَ الْغَيْبَ أَمْ اتَّخَذَ عِنْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ عَهْدًا } الْآيَةَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from the pagans said to the Prophet ﷺ: 'Follow the religion of Muhammad until you die, then you will be resurrected.' He laughed and said: 'I will have wealth and children then and give you your due.' So Allah revealed: 'Have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our verses and said I will surely be given wealth and children — has he seen the unseen or has he taken a covenant with the Most Merciful?'
