حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْوَرَكَانِيُّ أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَل
َيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَتَانِي مَلَكَانِ فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا لِلْآخَرِ أَقْرِئْهُ قَالَ عَلَى كَمْ قَالَ حَرْفٍ قَالَ زِدْهُ قَالَ حَتَّى بَلَغَ سَبْعَةَ أَحْرُفٍ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Two angels came to me. One said to the other: Make him recite. He asked: On how many modes? He said: One. He said: Add more — until we reached seven modes of recitation.'
