Hadith #77

حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أَكَلَ طَعَامًا بَعَثَ بِفَضْلِهِ إِلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ فَكَانَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ يَضَعُ أَصَابِعَهُ حَيْثُ يَرَى أَصَابِعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِطَعَامٍ فَوَجَدَ فِيهِ رِيحَ
ثُومٍ فَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ وَبَعَثَ بِهِ إِلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ فَلَمْ يَرَ فِيهِ أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ فِيهِ أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِكَ قَالَ إِنِّي وَجَدْتُ مِنْهُ رِيحَ ثُومٍ قَالَ أَتَبْعَثُ إِلَيَّ مَا لَسْتَ آكِلًا قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَأْتِينِي الْمَلَكُ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated from Jabir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ found the smell of garlic from a dish and did not eat it. He sent it to Abu Ayyub. Abu Ayyub saw no traces of the Prophet's fingers in it. He came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I did not see the traces of your fingers in it.' He said: 'I found in it the smell of garlic.' He said: 'Then you send me what you do not eat yourself?' He said: 'For a messenger comes to me.'
