حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ دَخَلَ الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ فَقَالَ مَا يُحَدِّثُكُمْ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعَثُ صَدَقَ فِيَّ نَزَلَتْ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ خُصُومَةٌ فِي أَرْضٍ فَخَاصَمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَلَكَ بَيِّنَةٌ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَيَ
مِينُهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ إِذَنْ يَحْلِفَ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ صَبْرًا لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ قَالَ فَنَزَلَتْ { إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا }
English Translation
It was narrated that al-Ash'ath ibn Qays entered and said: 'What is Abu Abd al-Rahman narrating to you?' They informed him, and al-Ash'ath said: 'He spoke truthfully — it was revealed concerning me. I had a dispute with a man over a well. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: «Bring your proof or he will take an oath.» I said: Then he will swear falsely. The Prophet ﷺ said: «Whoever swears falsely to seize the property of a Muslim while Allah is looking at him, Allah will be angry with him when he meets Him.»'
