حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ الْمُنْكَدِرِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ ابْنِ هَ
زَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَمْرِ مَاعِزٍ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ كُنْتَ سَتَرْتَهُ بِثَوْبِكَ كَانَ خَيْرًا لَكَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn Hazzal from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that he mentioned something of the affair of Ma'iz to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'Would that you had left him alone. Perhaps he would have repented and Allah would have accepted his repentance.'
