English Translation
It was narrated from Nu'aym ibn Hazzal (may Allah be pleased with him) that Ma'iz ibn Malik was in his care. When he committed fornication, he said to him: 'Go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and inform him.' So he went and confessed his sin four times. Each time the Prophet ﷺ turned away from him, until the fourth time, and the Prophet ﷺ commanded that he be stoned. Nu'aym said: 'If only I had not sent him — it weighs heavily upon me.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Why do you say that, Nu'aym? He has repented a repentance that if it were divided among seventy of the people of Medina, it would suffice them. Have you ever found any man better than one who offered himself for the sake of Allah?'
