حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ عَدِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ أَخْبَرَنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ لَمَّا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أُحُدٍ رَجَعَ أُنَاسٌ خَرَجُوا مَعَهُ فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِرْقَ
تَيْنِ فِرْقَةٌ تَقُولُ نَقْتُلُهُمْ وَفِرْقَةٌ تَقُولُ لَا قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فَكَانَ فَرِيقٌ يَقُولُونَ قَتْلَهُمْ وَفَرِيقٌ يَقُولُونَ لَا قَالَ بَهْزٌ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ { فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ } فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهَا طَيْبَةُ وَإِنَّهَا تَنْفِي الْخَبَثَ كَمَا تَنْفِي النَّارُ خَبَثَ الْفِضَّةِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'When the Messenger of Allah ß went out to Uhud, some people who had gone out with him turned back. The companions of the Messenger of Allah ß were divided into two groups: one group said they should be killed, and another said no. So Allah revealed: "What is the matter with you that you are divided into two groups concerning the hypocrites?"'
