حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ قَالَ أَتَى رَجُلٌ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَ

قَالَ إِنَّ امْرَأَتِي بِنْتُ عَمِّي وَأَنَا أُحِبُّهَا وَإِنَّ وَالِدَتِي تَأْمُرُنِي أَنْ أُطَلِّقَهَا فَقَالَ لَا آمُرُكَ أَنْ تُطَلِّقَهَا وَلَا آمُرُكَ أَنْ تَعْصِيَ وَالِدَتَكَ وَلَكِنْ أُحَدِّثُكَ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْوَالِدَةَ أَوْسَطُ أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ فَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَمْسِكْ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَدَعْ

English Translation

It was narrated from Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to him and said: 'My wife is my cousin and I love her, but my mother commands me to divorce her.' He said: 'I will not command you to divorce her, nor will I command you to disobey your mother. But I will tell you what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ß: "The parent is the middle door of Paradise."'
