Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهْرَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ أَبُو عَقِيلٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِيَدِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَأَنْتَ أَحَبّ
ُ إِلَيَّ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا نَفْسِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ قَالَ عُمَرُ فَأَنْتَ الْآنَ وَاللَّهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ نَفْسِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْآنَ يَا عُمَرُ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Hisham (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and 'Umar ibn al-Khattab was holding his hand. 'Umar said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you are dearer to me than everything except myself.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No, by the One in Whose hand is my soul, until I am dearer to you than yourself.' 'Umar said: 'Now, by Allah, you are dearer to me than myself.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Now, O 'Umar.'
