حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ حَدَّثَنَا غَيْلَانُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ الزِّمَّانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ أَ
رَأَيْتَ صِيَامَ عَرَفَةَ قَالَ أَحْتَسِبُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ السَّنَةَ الْمَاضِيَةَ وَالْبَاقِيَةَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ صَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ قَالَ أَحْتَسِبُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ السَّنَةَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about fasting the day of 'Arafah, and he ﷺ said: 'I hope from Allah that it expiates the preceding year and the coming year.' The man then asked about fasting 'Ashura', and he ﷺ said: 'I hope from Allah that it expiates the preceding year.'
