حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الْغَدَاةِ فَثَقُلَتْ عَلَي
ْهِ الْقِرَاءَةُ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ إِنِّي لَأَرَاكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ وَرَاءَ إِمَامِكُمْ قَالُوا نَعَمْ وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا لَنَفْعَلُ هَذَا قَالَ فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا إِلَّا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِهَا

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led them in the Fajr prayer and found the recitation heavy upon him. When he finished, he said: 'I see that you are reciting behind your imam.' They said: 'Yes, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we do.' He ﷺ said: 'Do not do so, except with Umm al-Qur'an, for there is no prayer for the one who does not recite it.'
