Hadith #269

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَامَ فِي سَفَرِهِ عَامَ الْفَ
تْحِ وَأَمَرَ أَصْحَابَهُ بِالْإِفْطَارِ وَقَالَ إِنَّكُمْ تَلْقَوْنَ عَدُوَّكُمْ فَتَقَوَّوْا فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ صَامُوا لِصِيَامِكَ فَلَمَّا أَتَى الْكَدِيدَ أَفْطَرَ قَالَ الَّذِي حَدَّثَنِي فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُبُّ الْمَاءَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ مِنْ الْحَرِّ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ

English Translation
It was narrated from a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fasted during his journey in the year of the Conquest, and ordered his companions to break their fast. He said: 'You are going to meet your enemy, so strengthen yourselves.' It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the people have fasted because of your fasting.' When he reached al-Kadid, he broke his fast.
