حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ حَدَّثَنَا بَكَّارٌ حَدَّثَنِي خَلَّادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا الطُّفَيْلِ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنَ الْيَمَانٍِ يَقُولُ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَلَا تَسْأَلُونِي فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ كَانُوا يَسْأَلُونَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الْخَيْرِ وَكُنْتُ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ الشَّرِّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَعَثَ نَبِيَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ فَدَعَا النَّاسَ مِنْ الْكُفْرِ إِلَى الْإِيمَانِ وَمِنْ الضَّلَالَةِ إِلَى الْهُدَى فَاسْتَجَابَ مَنْ اسْتَجَابَ فَحَيَّ مِنْ الْحَقِّ مَا كَانَ مَيْتًا وَمَاتَ مِنْ الْبَاطِلِ مَا كَانَ حَيًّا ثُمَّ ذَهَبَتْ النُّبُوَّةُ فَكَانَتْ الْخِلَافَةُ عَلَى مِنْهَاجِ النُّبُوَّةِ
English Translation
It was narrated from Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) through Abu al-Tufayl that Hudhayfa said: 'O people, will you not ask me? For people used to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about good, while I used to ask him about evil. Allah sent His Prophet ﷺ who called people from disbelief to faith and from misguidance to guidance. Those who responded revived the truth that had been dead, and those who did not respond brought the truth closer to its death...' and he described the trials that would follow.
