حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ زِرٍّ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِنْدَ حِجَارَةِ الْمِرَاءِ فَقَالَ يَا جِب
ْرِيلُ إِنِّي أُرْسِلْتُ إِلَى أُمَّةٍ أُمِّيَّةٍ إِلَى الشَّيْخِ وَالْعَجُوزِ وَالْغُلَامِ وَالْجَارِيَةِ وَالشَّيْخِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَقْرَأْ كِتَابًا قَطُّ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْقُرْآنَ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ

English Translation
It was narrated from Hudhayfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that Jibril (peace be upon him) met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the stones of al-Mira. He said: 'O Jibril, I have been sent to a people who are unlettered — to the old man and the old woman, the young boy and the young girl, and the old person who has never read a scripture.' He said: 'The Quran was revealed in seven modes (ahruf).'
