English Translation

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Hisham informed us, from Wasil, from al-Walid ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from 'Iyad ibn Ghutayf, who said: We entered upon Abu 'Ubaidah (رضي الله عنه) to visit him. He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever spends an extra expenditure in the path of Allah, it is multiplied seven hundred times. Whoever spends on himself or on his family, or visits a sick person, or removes harm from the road, then it is a good deed multiplied ten times. Fasting is a shield as long as one does not tear it. And whoever is afflicted by Allah with a trial in his body, it is an expiation for him.' [Second chain:] Yazid narrated to us, Jarir ibn Hazim informed us, Bashshar ibn Abi Sayf narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from 'Iyad ibn Ghutayf, who said: We entered upon Abu 'Ubaidah, and he mentioned the hadith.
