English Translation

Muhammad ibn Abi 'Adi narrated to us, from Sulayman, meaning al-Taymi, from Abu 'Uthman, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr (رضي الله عنهما), who said: Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) brought a guest, or guests, of his. He spent the evening with the Prophet ﷺ, and when he returned that evening, my mother said to him: 'You have been away from your guest, or guests, all night.' He said: 'Have you not fed them dinner?' She said: 'No. I offered it to him, or them, but he refused, or they refused.' Abu Bakr became angry and swore that he would not eat. The guest, or guests, swore that they would not eat until he ate. Abu Bakr said: 'This was surely from Shaytan.' So he called for the food and ate, and they ate. They did not lift a morsel except that more grew from beneath it. He said: 'O sister of Banu Firas, what is this?' She said: 'By the delight of my eyes, it is now more than it was before we ate.' So they ate, and he sent the remainder to the Prophet ﷺ, and it is mentioned that he ate from it.
