Sufyan narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn Abi Muslim, the uncle of Ibn Abi Najih, who heard Sa'id ibn Jubayr say: Ibn 'Abbas said: "Thursday! And what a Thursday!" Then he wept until his tears — and he said on one occasion: his tears — wet the pebbles. We said: "O Abu al-'Abbas, what about Thursday?" He said: "The illness of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became severe, and he said: 'Bring me something so I may write for you a document after which you will never go astray.' They disputed, and there should be no disputing in the presence of a prophet. They said: 'What is the matter with him? Is he delirious?'" Sufyan said: meaning confused. "'Ask him.' They went to repeat the question to him, and he said: 'Leave me, for what I am in is better than what you are calling me to.' And he commanded three things" — Sufyan said on one occasion: he bequeathed three things — "He said: 'Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and honor the delegations as I used to honor them.' Sa'id was silent about the third, and I do not know whether he omitted it intentionally" — and he said on one occasion: or forgot it. Sufyan said on one occasion: "either he left it out or forgot it."
