حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ بْن أَحْمَد وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْهُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ مَرَّ أَبُو جَهْلٍ فَقَالَ أَلَمْ أَنْهَكَ فَانْتَهَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَ
الَ لَهُ أَبُو جَهْلٍ لِمَ تَنْتَهِرُنِي يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَوَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا بِهَا رَجُلٌ أَكْثَرُ نَادِيًا مِنِّي قَالَ فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام { فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ } قَالَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَاللَّهِ لَوْ دَعَا نَادِيَهُ لَأَخَذَتْهُ زَبَانِيَةُ الْعَذَابِ

English Translation
'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us — 'Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: and I heard it from him — Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from Dawud, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: Abu Jahl passed by and said: "Did I not forbid you?" the Prophet ﷺ rebuked him. Abu Jahl said: "Why do you rebuke me, O Muhammad? By Allah, you know there is no man in this valley with a larger following than me." Jibril (عليه السلام) said: {Then let him call his associates} [al-'Alaq 96:17]. Ibn 'Abbas said: "By Allah, had he called his associates, the angels of punishment would have seized him."
