English Translation

'Abidah narrated to us, Mansur narrated to me, from Mujahid, from Tawus, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: "This city is sacred. Allah made it sacred the day He created the heavens and the earth. It is sacred, Allah made it sacred until the Day of Resurrection. Fighting was not made lawful in it for anyone except me, and it will not be lawful for anyone after me until the Hour is established. It was only made lawful for me for an hour of a day. It is sacred, Allah (عز وجل) made it sacred until the Hour is established. Its thorns are not to be cut, its vegetation is not to be uprooted, its game is not to be disturbed, and its lost property is not to be picked up except by one who announces it." Al-'Abbas — who was from the people of that city and knew what they could not do without — said: "Except the idhkhir grass, O Messenger of Allah, for they cannot do without it. It is for their graves and their houses." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Except the idhkhir."
