English Translation

Surayj narrated to us, Hushaym narrated to us, Husayn ibn 'Abd al-Rahman informed us, he said: I was with Sa'id ibn Jubayr and he said: 'Which of you saw the shooting star that fell last night?' I said: 'I did.' Then I said: 'But I was not in prayer at that time — I had been stung.' He said: 'What did you do?' I said: 'I performed ruqyah.' He said: 'What made you do that?' I said: 'A hadith that al-Sha'bi narrated to us.' He said: 'What did he narrate to you?' I said: 'He narrated from Buraydah ibn al-Husayb who said: There is no ruqyah except for the evil eye or a sting.' Sa'id said: 'He has done well who stops at what he has heard. But Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) narrated to us from the Prophet ﷺ who said: The nations were presented to me. I saw a prophet with a small group, a prophet with one or two men, and a prophet with no one. Then a great multitude was raised before me, and I thought they were my ummah. It was said to me: This is Musa (عليه السلام) and his people. But look at the horizon. I looked, and there was a great multitude. It was said: Look at the other horizon. And there was another great multitude. It was said: This is your ummah, and among them are seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment. Then he got up and entered his house. The people discussed who they might be. Some said: Perhaps they are those who accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Others said: Perhaps they are those who were born in Islam and never associated anything with Allah. They mentioned various possibilities. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and said: What are you discussing? They told him. He said: They are those who do not seek ruqyah, do not cauterize themselves, do not believe in bad omens, and put their trust in their Lord. 'Ukkashah ibn Mihsan stood and said: Am I one of them, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Yes. Another man stood and said: Am I one of them? He said: 'Ukkashah has preceded you to it.'
