Hadith #282

حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ
عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْسَ الْخَبَرُ كَالْمُعَايَنَةِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَخْبَرَ مُوسَى بِمَا صَنَعَ قَوْمُهُ فِي الْعِجْلِ فَلَمْ يُلْقِ الْأَلْوَاحَ فَلَمَّا عَايَنَ مَا صَنَعُوا أَلْقَى الْأَلْوَاحَ فَانْكَسَرَتْ

English Translation
Surayj ibn al-Nu'man narrated to us, Hushaym narrated to us, from Abu Bishr, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Being told about something is not the same as seeing it. Allah عز وجل informed Musa (عليه السلام) about what his people did with the calf, and he did not throw down the tablets. But when he saw what they had done, he threw the tablets down and they broke.'
