حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ لَيْ

ثٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَالَ قَالَ لَهَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّمَا سُمِّيتِ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لِتَسْعَدِي وَإِنَّهُ لَاسْمُكِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُولَدِي

English Translation

Sufyan narrated to us, from Layth, from a man who said: Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) said to her (i.e. 'A'ishah رضي الله عنها): 'You were only named Mother of the Believers so that you may be blessed, and indeed it was your name before you were born.'
