English Translation
Mu'awiyah narrated to me, he said Za'idah narrated to us, from Hisham, from Qays ibn Sa'd, 'Ata' narrated to me that Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) narrated to him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to prostrate and sleep until he would snore — or would breathe heavily — then he would stand and pray without performing wudu'. He said to him: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed without performing wudu' after sleeping?' He said: 'Yes, for wudu' is only required of one who lies down to sleep, because when he lies down his joints relax.'
