English Translation

Yunus narrated to us, Hammad, meaning Ibn Zayd, narrated to us, from Kathir ibn Shinzir, from 'Ata', from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما), who said: The origin of the fast riding (ida') was from the desert people. They would stand on the edges of the crowd and hang their sticks, quivers, and wooden bowls. When they departed, those items would rattle and cause the people to rush. He said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was seen with the bone behind his camel's ear touching her withers (pulling the reins to slow her), while gesturing with his hand saying: "O people, you must maintain calmness! O people, you must maintain calmness!"
