حصن المسلم
Hisn al-Muslim min Adhkar al-Kitab was-Sunnah — Fortress of the Muslim from the Remembrances of the Book and the Sunnah — is the most widely distributed contemporary compilation of Islamic supplications and remembrances in the world. Its author, Said ibn Ali ibn Wahf al-Qahtani, is a Saudi scholar who compiled this pocket-sized collection of authenticated prophetic supplications as a practical daily reference for Muslims seeking to maintain a life structured by Quranic and prophetic remembrance. Since its first publication in the 1980s, it has been printed in hundreds of millions of copies and translated into dozens of languages.
Al-Qahtani's project was explicitly practical: he wanted to produce a concise, portable, and reliably authenticated collection of adhkar for everyday use, drawing on the foundational classical works in the genre — particularly Al-Nawawi's Al-Adhkar, Ibn as-Sunni's Amal al-Yawm wal-Laylah, al-Bukhari's Al-Adab al-Mufrad, and the canonical six hadith collections — while applying contemporary hadith critical standards to exclude weak and fabricated traditions. This critical filtering, based largely on the assessment criteria of al-Albani and other contemporary hadith scholars, distinguishes Hisn al-Muslim from earlier compilations that included a wider range of traditions.
The title Hisn — meaning fortress or citadel — reflects the Islamic understanding that authentic remembrance of God provides the believer with spiritual protection from harm, temptation, and the devices of Shaytan. The Quran and the prophetic tradition are full of declarations that regular, sincere remembrance of God creates a protected spiritual space around the believer, and Hisn al-Muslim's title captures this protective theological function of the adhkar it contains.
The book's extraordinary popularity has made it one of the defining features of contemporary Sunni Muslim devotional practice globally, distributed at mosques, Islamic centers, and as gifts at weddings and other occasions. Its conciseness — most editions fit in a shirt pocket — has contributed to its practical utility and widespread adoption.
