الأدعية المناسباتية والتعوذات
Beyond the daily structured remembrances, Hisn al-Muslim contains an extensive collection of occasion-specific supplications that address the full range of situations a Muslim encounters in daily life. These sections cover the authenticated formulas for entering and leaving the home, entering and leaving the mosque, entering and leaving the bathroom, beginning and concluding a meal, wearing new clothes, sneezing and responding to a sneeze, seeing a new moon, looking in a mirror, hearing the call to prayer, and dozens of other ordinary moments that the prophetic tradition has invested with the significance of remembrance.
The travel-related adhkar are among the most frequently cited in this section. The Prophet prescribed specific supplications for mounting a vehicle, for beginning a journey, for stopping at an unfamiliar place, and for returning home safely. Hisn al-Muslim presents these authenticated travel formulas with their sources, and they have been widely adopted by Muslims who travel, from the common vehicle supplication to the longer formulas for extended journeys. The understanding that travel is spiritually significant and requires specific prophetic remembrances is one of the distinctive features of the Islamic devotional life that Hisn al-Muslim helps preserve.
The protective formulas in Hisn al-Muslim — those specifically designed for spiritual protection from harm, evil eye, jealousy, and the influence of Shaytan — are among its most widely memorized sections. The morning and evening remembrances include several protective formulas, but Hisn al-Muslim also contains dedicated sections on the authenticated formulas for seeking refuge from specific harms. The formula Ayat al-Kursi (the Throne Verse), the Mu'awwidhat (the last two Surahs), and specific prophetic formulas for protection from envy and magic are presented with careful sourcing.
The social supplication sections cover the authenticated formulas for congratulating those who have married, welcomed a new child, recovered from illness, or received other blessings. They also include the formulas for expressing condolences, visiting the sick, and responding to someone who has sneezed. These social adhkar reflect the understanding that every social interaction is an opportunity for the remembrance of God and the expression of the believer's orientation toward the divine.
