أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا. أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو وَعَاصِمٍ ابْنَيْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ الثَّقَفِيِّ : أَنَّ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَجَدَ عَيْبَةً فَأَتَى بِهَا عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ :" عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً، فَ
إِنْ عُرِفَتْ، فَذَاكَ، وَإِلَّا فَهِيَ لَكَ، فَلَمْ تُعْرَفْ، فَلَقِيَهُ بِهَا فِي الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ فِي الْمَوْسِمِ فَذَكَرَهَا لَهُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : هِيَ لَكَ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَنَا بِذَلِكَ ". قَالَ : لَا حَاجَةَ لِي بِهَا. فَقَبَضَهَا عُمَرُ، فَجَعَلَهَا فِي بَيْتِ الْمَالِ

English Translation
It was narrated from Sufyan ibn Abdullah that he found a small bag of goods and brought it to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: 'Announce it for a year; if it is recognized, fine; if not, it belongs to you.' It was not recognized, and when he met him the following year at the pilgrimage season, he mentioned it again. Umar said: It is yours, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to do that. He said: I have no need of it. So Umar took it and put it in the public treasury.
