حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَسْدِلُ شَعَرَهُ وَكَانَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ يَفْرُقُونَ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحِبُّ مُوَافَقَةَ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فِيمَا لَمْ يَنْزِلْ عَلَيْهِ فَفَرَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأْسَهُ
English Translation
'Uthman ibn 'Umar narrated to us, Yunus narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah, from Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the Prophet ﷺ used to let his hair hang down (sadl), and the polytheists used to part their hair. The People of the Book used to let their hair hang down, and the Prophet ﷺ liked to agree with the People of the Book in matters where he had not been commanded otherwise. Then later the Prophet ﷺ parted his hair.
