Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ أَتَيْتُهُ بِعَرَفَةَ فَوَجَدْتُهُ يَأْكُلُ رُمَّانًا فَقَالَ ا
دْنُ فَكُلْ لَعَلَّكَ صَائِمٌ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ لَا يَصُومُهُ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَصُمْ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Sa'id ibn Jubayr — via Ayyub — that he said: 'I came to him at 'Arafah and found him eating a pomegranate. He said: 'Come and eat — you may be fasting. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not fast on this day.' And [in another telling:] 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not fast this day.'
